About Würzburg's International Film Festival

PrintE-mail

The International Film Festival in Würzburg is one of the oldest and most diverse film festivals in Germany. It was founded in 1974 by a handful of volunteers and does not accept any thematical limits or stereotypical thinking. For four days, Würzburg is home to more than forty international
films.

One distinct feature of this event is that, when possible, guests are invited to accompany film. Consequently, the audience has the opportunity to understand the director's motivation. The familiar atmosphere at the festival and the closeness to guests from the film industry are two aspects, in particular, that we pride ourselves on. The festival aims is to surprise its visitors with films, perspectives and guests that enrich and expand horizons.

One thing has not changed since 1974: the film festival is still organized exclusively by volunteers. Considering that more than 10,000 visitors join us for this four-day event, the film festival is brave enough to claim that it is one of the largest festivals of its kind in Germany.  We look forward to seeing you this year!
