Already on Sunday evening can be estimated that the film weekend again nearly captivated 10,000 spectators. “Our visitors have highy praised the choice of films again”, rejoiced the festival manager Thomas Schulz. “Even if the farewell of the festival from the Mozartareal makes us a little sad we happily take the spectator´s acknowledgment with us and look forward to the removal in 2017 to the Bürgerbräu.” Especially popular was the Danish film "Rosita", which was sold out in both screenings. Also the Austrian contributions like “Jack” and “Gruber geht” were well received. The same applies for the two retrospectives “100 Jahre Gänsehaut” (100 years of horripilation) and “Filme nach Stanislaw Lem” (films by Stanislaw Lem): And here are the winners of the 42nd International Film Weekend:

Current Changes

The two screenings of 600 Millas (600 Miles)  unfortunately have been cancelled for technical reasons.

Due to popular demand we are going to present Kurzfilmblock 2 (short film block 2) again on Saturday instead.

On Sunday  at 7:15 p. m.  "Für eine schöne Welt" will be presented again in the Studio.
Online reservations for this additional screening are now possible.
Please find the link for reservation at the German page.

The simultaneous screening of "Nude Area" was moved to the Kellerkino (basement cinema), so that here additional tickets are available.

The International Film Weekend opens its doors!

The 42nd International Film Weekend opened on Wednesday with a festive champagne reception in the presence of Mayor Christian Schuchardt, many other representatives of the city of Würzburg and the festival sponsors.
Festival director Thomas Schulz promised an attractive and varied program. “A lot of wonderful films never find their way into the big cinemas. These undiscovered film gems will be screened at our festival and the best thing is that you can also get in touch with the filmmakers.” One of these guests is the high-profile American director Mick Garris, who is going to present the retrospective “100 Jahre Gänsehaut” (100 years of horripilation) on Saturday.

Mayor Schuchardt has already revealed his personal film highlight. He is going to watch “Solaris” which is part of the Stanislaw Lem retrospective that will take place on Friday. The Mayor called the filmweekend a “very important element of Würzburg´s cultural landscape” and thanked all the volunteers who have been enabling the festival for decades now.
